Roasted Chicken vs. Steamed Chicken

Have anyone watched "The Pursuit of Happyness" already?

Based on a true story. Nice movie to recommend to all of you. I capture loads of lessons through it. **thumbs up** Here's one of the quotes from the father to his son that i really like.

Chris Gardner
(Father):"Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. All right?"

(son):"All right. "

Chris Gardner
(Father):"You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you that you can't do it too. If you want somethin', go get it. Period."

Please watch!

To start with, I used to think that The Manhattan Fish Market is no more than just another ordinary rowdy and smelly market selling fishes. Nonetheless, it's really amazing to see how fishes can be prepared in several ways, such as Grill la.. Fry la... Steam la.. Roast la?? bla bla bla.. Til now i haven even placed my foot once to that place.Yearning for the day to come. Mussels... Lobsters...Prawns... wait for me please...

Located just right opposite Kenny Rogers. What a good Feng Sui. Surely that both sides have been working very hard to bring their business to the utmost. One sells chicken and the other sells fish.

Customer customers and customerssssss....

And it was today when i realized that i'm in error. Fish Market is no longer our main rival anymore, simply cause today during my work, i am so happened to stumble upon this outlet opposite Kenny Rogers. Initially i thought that it will going to be Apple Donuts, i'm wrong then. It's ...

#Chicken Rice Shop#

Yea. You see it. The interior design looks way better and more attractive compares to Kenny Rogers. Chicken Rice Shop ohh Chicken Rich Shop. This is what we called warfare. Thank goodness that there's no KFC in tHe Spring yet.

This is not just another everyday Chicken rice shop in Kuching. Going to be launched in tHE Spring soon and very soon and very the soon. The tauke must has heaps of guts to inaugurate this outlet in tHe Spring.

Hmm.. Steam Chicken vs. Roasted Chicken.

I'm convinced that once when this Chicken rice Shop sets the ball rolling, at least 30% of Kenny Roger's business will slacken off at the first 2 weeks only, then everything will be back to normal again.

That's how Kuchingites rule...LOL!

One thing for sure, SugarBun won't appear in The Spring.

eric: Yea, HAPPYness. Anyting wrong with it ka?? Grammar mistake ka??Mr. Perfect English.. haha.. Im certain that the author wana emphasize of the word happy. That's why the word appears that way. =)

Chicken Rice Shop is from KL. They are similar to that of Singapore Chicken Rice in Kuching. But they serve pretty good Chicken Rice.

Yeah...happy to see chic rice shop in KCH...

Food & Tea

"Think before we speak, Speak after we think."

tHe Spring has literally become my second dwelling place. Spend almost 67.33% of my time wandering in this stupendous hall. Recently, I have visited Food & Tea twice in a row. Initially i thought it was Chinese and Tea. Very da mismatched eh. Who knows it might be Chinese and Hokkien as a substitute.

Anyway, located just outside of tHe Spring. Perhaps most of you do not notice the existence of this cafe. Yet, here's the view, so go and hunt for it.

#Interior design#

Yeap yeap, contemporary design. Especially those chairs. Like it!

#Food menu#

Warning: Johnson is unsure whether taking snapshots of the food menu is permissible or not. For all that, he's still risking his life for you. Heroic eh..

Reasonable price

Unreasonable price

##Food Food##

It's called as Superstar.

100% unsuited for it ba. If i'm the Name-giver, I would at least name it as Pink Panter instead. Or maybe Pinky pig la..

Two pieces of thick bread with butter topping?

Cin Cao (in hokkien means Very smelly)

Red Beans & Barley

K, right now allow me to introduce to you my new temptation.

##Mr. Carrot Cake##

**A little help in puffing up the food.** In fact, its really delicious till the sambal has almost blazed my entire tongue. The sickening chilly oil, yet it is still irresistible to dip the whole piece of cake into it. Eesshh.... **nice bah**

Thanks to the addiction, there's a definite more visits to this cafe just for the carrot cake.

I'm simply just in love with the carrot cake right now! **slurp**

Wow, Johnson. I'm very suprised that you can actually calculated the time you spend in The Spring until so accurate. Two decimal points some more. You might be the next Albert Einstein. =D Good good.

Blogging in tHe Spring?

I have no idea why Kenny Rogers' manager keep accepting new part-timers and now there's approximately 40++ workers in a restaurant. **speechless** And because of this, many of us are given limited hours to work.

Less hours mean less pay.

How am i going to hit my mark like that....

Streamyx connection seems to be very fickle for the past few nights. Couldn't log in to msn, send urgent files, check mails, watch youtube, read yahoo news and not forgetting, blogging! My life particularly at night has instantaneously become so hollow bah...

The only hours that my connection revives back to a normal speed is morning and afternoon, which means its my working hours. How to blog like that... Perhaps Telekom tries to play a prank with me. Eesshhh...

Kudos to tHe spring for providing free wireless access throughout the hall if i'm not mistaken.

Now everyone is happy. I can now utilize my break time to surf my blog. Cool cool.

See how addicted passionate I am right? LOL!

Pay you to work, not to blog okay. So obsessed bah.

By Blogger Eric, at Friday, January 25, 2008 at 11:48:00 PM GMT+8

eric: I'm responsible with my work le. I work to my max during working hours, and during break time i maximize my time in surfing the net and touring around Spring. Haha

Little updates of me and from me!

My friend's father just passed away on Saturday. His dad was still very young at age. Condolence to him and his family. My heart grieves every time when there's someone departs this life.

I have learned to value my family even more.

We don't know what lies ahead of us. But what we have been blessed with now, our family, our close buddies, our peers, our mentors and lots more, let's cherish them even more.

Noted, only ONE life to live, let's live it to the fullest. There's not a need to live it again for the second time if we live out the first properly.

So it was my fifth day working in Kenny Rogers. 50% of exhaustion and another 50% of excitement.

Guess that many of you would really want to know how's my working life yea? That's why by hook or by crook, i just need to sacrifice my sleeping hours dig out some while to complete this post.

So let me get started!

First and foremost, I am gradually adapting well into this working habit. Haven been sacrificing lots of my sleeping hours. Sleep less and Work more.

Boulevard's branch.

Inside tHe Spring's wing.

Truthfully, the food there ain't that cheap at all. A Quarter meal that consists of 1/4 roasted chicken, one muffin and three side dishes cost approximately Rm 15.90. Okay, its still acceptable. Yet, the soft drinks cost Rm3.90 per cup! And this is really mahal!

**No complain please Johnson.**

One thing that stimulates me to stay on in KRR is the free meal provided for every workers. Proud to proclaim publicly that all of the KRR workers get to eat a Quarter meal for every break plus plus any soft drinks. Total estimation will reach around Rm 24 for each meal inclusive of services tax and government tax. Yea, that's totally F.O.C! And its for daily recess.

Hence, I will tempt show you the FREE meal that i luxuriated in. **Please don't lick your monitor k.**

# 1st day#

That's my first meal in KRR. I mean Free meal.

Plus my first time trying out their chicken. Kinda tasty though. The meat is much more tender compared to KFC. Roasted ba... haha..Less Fat...

After having my first day experience of working at The Spring, i can conclude that there's no proper management and seriousness there. The workers there were quite conceited to socialize with the juniors. Everyone was just so playful. The manager did not seem to be interested with the juniors

Furthermore, she's a phlegmatic for sure!

After my first day of working and training at The Spring, the manager asked both me and keith to go to Boulevard's branch the next day to complete our two days training. Cause KRR at Boulevard is the pioneering branch in Kuching.

##Day 2##

Reached Boulevard at 9.30am and waited for our training. All of the juniors were so excited and quite punctual. Hmm.. So basically, the training consists of knowing the history of Kenny Rogers. Who founded KRR. Why and how was it started. And little familiarity of the proper standard service rules. What are the etiquettes and so on.

Ada plasma Tv eh..

One of the managers, Ms. Nur, coached all of the juniors with great enthusiasm. She's only 22! So young bah.. Filled with great friendliness and zeal in leading us. That's one thing i like about her personality.

There's a rule for every server who is taking order. "We must try out every single side dish in order to be able to differentiate taste."

To make you start drooling now. Check this out!

Free Chicken again! Nyam nyam!

The 12 side dishes to try out!

The upper six bowls are hot serving and the bottom six are cold serving.

I only like the fresh fruit salad after all.

Met some new friends, Daniel chong, Lydia and bla bla bla (forget their names eh..)

#Day 3#

It was Friday, had my last day training at Boulevard. Learned to improve in my serving and taking order. And of cause, there was much betterment in my performance.

Another free lunch before we depart!

Short conclusion of my two days training at Boulevard's branch:

After working and get coached at Boulevard for two days, i pretty delight in the management and system for sure! This has definitely portrayed the top-class standard of a restaurant. The supervisors and managers are so neighbourly, i mean super duper nice. There are no mischievous workmen to be found there. Everyone is so cooperative.

Not to deny, this circumstance did stir my thinking twice whether or not to switch my working location to Boulevard instead of pulling myself through in The Spring's after my first experience at The Spring's branch.

No worries, I'm a little pig-headed. Will stick to original plan.

##Day 4##

It was Saturday.

After the sufficient training from the seniors, i'm ready! Hehe..

Was scheduled to work at 12pm till (you will know later) ... Weekends are always a hectic day for all workers. Lots and lots of customers will come in and out.

To cut my story short, let me just show you my third free meal. After realizing that eating more chickens might not be healthy, so i decided to take more fruits. Balancing my diet ma..

On Saturday I planned to work OT, since they are desperately needed workers to work OT i'm free whole day. Every hours and minutes, customers started to jam inside out. Some were even willing to queue up and wait for 5-10 minutes just to get their sit. **respect respect** I'm referring to their legs la not the tummy.. haha

Busy serving ... Sending .. taking orders. Yet, it was enjoyable.

One common phrase that keep floating in the air whenever there's a customer enter in is "Hai, welcome to KeNNYYYyyy RoGGGeerrrss.." Goshh... i have been listening to the same line over and over and over and over and over and over again for more than 8 hours .....

Hearing the saying for the first time is okay, nice and

Listening to it the second times is okay ...

Third times ....still acceptable..

Fourth times .... erm ... forcefully swallow those words.

After the fifth times ... I'm speechless ... The phrase was once a beautiful tone changed into a disgusting and irritating noise.. iisshh...

Working till 12 am seems to be kinda exhausting. True. But it's also worthwhile. We get to eat the leftover, i mean the remaining food. Not the chicken bones or half bite muffins la..

It was then almost 11pm. Asked permission from the manager whether we are allowed to conquer the rest of the fish fillets and roasted chickens, and our permission is granted! What to do, we caught the manager stealing the fish fillet too.. LOL!

##Tada, our late night supper!##

Each fillet costs more than 10 ringgit. Free chicken lagi .... side dishes .... unlimited soft drinks ... everything is free of charge!!

Day four was really tiring, it was my first encounter to undergo a nonstop 12 hours work. Glad that i manage to pull myself through. Hehe.. my leg stepped heaps of sour lemons. **its just a lame illustration**

Sometimes, after standing for hours and hours, you will realize how comfy when your butok get to rest on a chair for 10 seconds. Soon, you will value sitting down for hours!

Before we depart, i brought back more than ten muffins home. **evil laugh** Reached home with a torpid body. **snoring soundly**

##Day 5##

It was Sunday.

Started to work at 3pm till 12am. And here's my free meal!

Extra scoop for my side dishes. Fill up every single space on the plate!

I ever wonder how good if we are allowed to refund our money instead of having the meal. Then KRR will soon bankrupt after two months.

Hopefully, I will not be fed up of eating chicken. I 'm so much in love with roasted chicken!

#Day 6#

It's monday.

Off day. And right here blogging!

I am assured that this is just the beginning of everything. More weeks ahead. Meet new colleagues. Roth, Jackson, Murphy, Swing .... Everyone is just so spontaneous in serving. Having fun time in serving together too.

Not only that, I met quite a numbers of my secondary school mates whom i have not seen for many years. Even my family came and visit me, and i enjoyed myself in serving them! Its my pleasure!

Visit me~!

Before i chao, here's one joke that i want to share with all of you. Haiyo, Kuching's famous phrase: "Got good thing must share mah..". An encounter between me and a female customer while i was taking her order.

Me: "Ms, which side dish would you like to have?"

Ms: "Can i have one Cholesterol please?"

Me: **blur for a moment** "You mean coleslaw, Ms?"

Ms: **Speechless**

After all, laughter is still the best medicine, right? LOL!

Perhaps the customer thought coleslaw is pronounced as "co-le-slaw", which sounds a lot like "co-le-straw".

Funny girl.

Starbucks so special meh?

"Sleep less, Work hard!"

--Motto of the month-- LOL!

Starbucks is now rather widespread in Kuching, at The Spring la.. Kuching International Airport la.. Boulevard (coming soon la..). Widely known as the King of all coffees. Undeniably its still slightly nicer and double thumbs up compare to Coffee bean. Agree right people? Don't stone me k Coffee Bean's lovers, i know the truth always hurts! LOL!

Personally, i am not a coffee freak. But ...

Why is it so special than most of coffees out there? Coffee junkies would rather spend Rm10 plus plus just to purchase their favourite mocha la.. espresso... latte la.... People just love to visit Starbucks. Even one of my friend's brother has won the "Most loyal customer" from Starbucks.

Please clear my confusion. :(

Coffee Bean and Starbucks coffee uses different kinds of coffee beans (or powder?) than the standard kopitiam one. The taste also different. Not necessarily better-tasting; I think that's a matter of personal preference.

But hey! Coffee Bean and Starbucks are two of the few shops that serve cappuccino in Kuching (albeit super expensively). Can't get that in the kopitiams.

By Blogger saykhia, at Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 12:22:00 PM GMT+8

Hmmm... I think for the atmosphere and everything... I dun mind goin starbucks or coffee bean...

I love coffee!

I must admit though starbucks coffee tastes much better

By Anonymous Anonymous, at Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 10:09:00 PM GMT+8

saykhia: do you know that Kenny Rogers also serve cappuccino and it costs around Rm 5.50.... swt... mahalnya..

dwinz: you la.. go everywhere also drink coffee. The Spring's Starbucks buka till 3am in the morning.. the only shop and cafe that is so "Kut Lak" in Spring.. haha!!

By Blogger Johnson, at Sunday, January 20, 2008 at 1:14:00 AM GMT+8

The KRR cappuccino sucks like hell. I tried it once... its super strong and yucky, wanna die. I put in four packs of sugar and three creamer also cannot make it sweet.

By Blogger Daniel Chong, at Monday, January 21, 2008 at 9:14:00 PM GMT+8

dwinz: yeaps man! Starbucks and Secret recipe both battling for business till 3 am plus plus.. haha! But one thing lo, i kesian the workers there.. need to work till so late..

First day of working??

For the sake of working, i was asked
politely by the manager to trim off my pony tail. No worries, Johnson is very sacrificial de ... LOL!

Say bye-bye to Pony tail!

Wonder how's my first day of working in Kenny Rogers?

Woke up very early, prepared myself well, 80% excited and 20% sleepy though.

I recalled what Mr. Ooi, who was Professional Engineering's lecturer, once said "Your punctuality shows your professionality." So with the chun-chun kinda of spirit, both Keith and I reached The Spring before time, thinking that we would have something light and easy to do. Manatau the manager ordered both of us to do housecleaning.

Mopping the floor, sweeping the floor, polishing the window ... bla bla bla ... - -" Okay, no complaining with these.

But, this is the one thing that has truly irritated me lots and still annoy me whenever i reckon back about it. I always thought that mopping is a very facile job, little do i know mopping is way too nasty in Kenny Rogers! The mop was so weird, cause when i fill the empty bucket with clean water and dip the "bushy hair" into the pail. And within 3 seconds, the whole bucket turned into pure black! No matter how many times the water was changed, the mop was somehow cannot be purified. So oily and dirty! It seems like it is not a mop at all, it's more likely "miao pik" (China's brush pen)

To make the story even worst, there was actually a sickening smell coming out from the mop. Yucks! Notwithstanding, i still need to do my housecleaning. Trying my best to pretend that the mop is clean and enjoying my time of mopping the floor. Anyway, no one will realize that the floor is actually oily and contaminated. Kudos to the aircon that successfully suck up the wonderful odour. **Shh...don't spread this news. LOL! You know i know enough liaw.. haha**

Eww.. Wanna vomit ..yucks!!! If you wanna know what's the smell like, here's some clue: Go to any septic tank, open the cap and place your nose in it for 3 seconds only! And you will then be aware of how fantastic the smell is.

Here's the bright and clean side, working in Kenny Rogers is definitely beneficial. Simply because all of the workers get to eat this (picture below) for their tea break everyday.

This was my F.O.C meal today. **slurp slurp**

We get to choose any three side dishes, any muffin's flavors, any type of spaghetti. Untung ho? Total up will be more than Rm 20 for every free meal. **evil laugh**

The softness of the roasted meat, the savoury Black Pepper gravy, the tempting smell ... uuhhh la la ...**thumbs up!** Please don't lick your monitor screen.

So hopefully i will not get sick and tired of eating those stuffs. Pizza is still in my phobia's list , wishfully that roasted chicken will not and never be listed in it.

Few more weeks to pull myself through! At least there's a motivation to drive me on strongly to persevere.

Don't ask me what's that!

OMG johnson the smell is still in my nose. yucks. wanna vomit. i think now im actually having cold sweat sickness because of that and im really really uneasy. so horrible that every smell that goes in my nose smells like that pale. YUCKER!!!

okay. my leg is half dead. so is my sexy hard rock buttocks. ahem! okay the food was alright. but imagine having the same rm20 ringgit meal everyday we're gonna get so damn sick of kenny rogers. the pasta wud be gud perhaps. tangy bolognaise or mec cheese. we will get sick of them also one way or another.

im actually enjoying myself from shouting "HAI WELCOME TO KENNY ROGERS!!~"(in a very disgusting tone) that i dont hold back when im spose to. shoot out loud. first day was fine i guess. but perhaps we have to expect for the worse.

gud luck buddy.

motivation. and yes i licked my computer screen 5 times.

1 each for the 3 side dishes, 1/4 chicken and the muffin. alright!

Year 1 Sem 2 result.

Sooner or later, tHe Spring will dry up everyone's wallets in Kuching. **sigh sigh** So the best solution to prevent this from happening is to go to Boulevard instead of tHE Spring. Okay, lame.

Degree's result has just released today. Days and weeks before, everyone was so excited, anxious, restless and etc.. Especially this aggravating guy, Mr. Avery, keep on annoyed people by telling people that how scare he was to fail. How annoying? Reminding you everyday, even sms you about the countdown days left. - -"

Logged in to Blackboard. Downloaded the file. Scanned through my result and all of my friends' results.

My result was okay. Not that pleasing though but i managed to survive in those 4 subjects. Doesn't mean that I flunk k? **Choy choy choy** ... Just that this is what I supposed already since i have not work hard for my last semester. Failed badly in my resolution.

Nonetheless, I should be grateful cause at least i manage to pull myself through. Let not history repeats itself again for next semester. To Aldrin, please don't always remind of my previous resolution ba.. **A moment of silence* haha..

One month plus plus to enjoy my holiday before I endure my limited freedom at Year 2.

Kenny Rogers, here i come! Visit me, guys!

Spiritual Cafe in Kuching?

At last, Kenny Rogers has decided to hire me as a part timer. Prayer answered. So all of you better pay a visit to Kenny Rogers and visit me, hopefully everytime when i walk pass Starbucks, the manager will feel regretful when he see me. Wuahaha

Undeniably, blogging to me is still a die-die-must-do routine. Readers are desperate to read ba. Here i am, back in blogging.

For the past few days, i am badly pressurized to produce a short Conference publicity. Although it is just a 1 minute plus plus clip, yet it has taken my whole week just to edit them... erggh... Nonetheless, my hard work has paid off. I have completed it. Very cool video though. Wanna watch hia..

It is really rare to spot on any Christian cafe in Kuching, fully decorated with verses and surrounded with Christian songs. And i could hardly find one.

Last wed, a friend of mine brought me to this place called Shiloh. Located behind Travillion. Later did i know, it was actually a Christian cafe. From outside, it appeared to be just another pubs in Travillion.

Yet, walking closer to the entrance ..

Even there's a window sticker that stated "Follow God closely". huuu... you better do.

The window sticker did not bring much wuuu haaa to me, what really woo my attention was this ....

Aiseh man. Super huge verse printed on the wall. John 3:16

Nice eh the interior design..

Besides that, one of the walls was printed with the name of God.

Jehovah Jehovah Jehovah

A cross sticker on the dining table.

Food food!

Fish and Chips

Fish fillet rice.

Sandwich. Paiseh, my camera's flash was too bright and caused those breads to be filled with glory.

Nonetheless, they even provide you some spiritual food.

##The Holy Bible!##

Hmm ...

That is just so cool!

where is that place????????????

Haha...I was about to introduce u to this place but seems like u have been to it too. We celebrated a colleague's bday there last week and I was impressed with the cafe and the food is priced reasonably too. We had 15% discount as well. Haha...the owners are from Blessed church. I dreamt of opening such cafe also one day...but with a corner to relax and which Kenny Rogers will u be at? The one at Springs or Boulevard...we will be there to give you a hard time...hehehe....

Away and away

The Spring will kick off on 10th Jan. 10am. I dare to bet that at least 70% of Kuchingites will jam the whole mall. What to do.. sakai ma..

I am so glad that i'm finally coped up with loads of stuffs for this few days. Heaps of assignments to be handed in. Due date: This friday. It's a good news k.

So, will be super hectic, i guess. Okay, i do have some interesting topics to blog about. Just that there is no additional time to slot my blogging schedule. So paiseh lo...

Will be away for this few days.. Hang on, my addicted readers. =P

Tata !!!!

During school holidays, the only assignment that you would possibly have is to copy everything in the Holy Bible, word by word using pencil/pen.

My second chance?

"It pays to be patience." - MTV Boiling Points -

Let's just put no heed to my terrible sickness that i have just gone through. No worries, i am still alive.

One and half month has passed and I am currently still under fungus-growing mood. Couldn't find any suitable part-time job for this short stand-in.

Still remember about my part-time job interview in Starbucks?

That was about 3 weeks ago. After i turned up for the interview, i was so convinced that i will get the job, the questions quite straight forward. However ..... Sad to say that Starbucks did not want to hire me , or should i say i'm a little more standard for another better job. LOL!

Not to give up yet, I was then introduced to another job.

Yeap, Kenny Rogers Roaster. This is the one located in Boulevard mall. Previously, there was the first Kenny Rogers at Sarawak Plaza, and with the worse luck, this cafeteria was then declared bankrupt. wuahaha.. Perhaps, with a little application of Feng Sui for Kenny Rogers in Boulevard, people are tempted to go now.

Nonetheless, I will be going for my second interview at The Spring's Kenny Rogers. So hopefully my first ever part time job will be approved. They need people who are hospitable bah,...

"Here i am, Send me..."

At least it's not Pizza this round, it's chicken.... safe safe..

wad questions they ask ar in starbucks???

Sick of illness

I missed the run!!! **Sigh sigh sigh sigh**

All of my zeal, my excitement for the run has turned into complete suffering. Out of nowhere, I was ill at the wrong time. Was alive and super dynamic until when i came back from Pizza Hut, everything reshaped!

It was last day before 2008, someone-and-you-know-who-you-are decided to organize a birthday party at Pizza Hut. Thinking that it was fine to enjoy my last meal before the run. Ate quite a lot, okay, i mean overloaded. Felt a little uneasy. Hoping that everything will be fine after a short rest. However, everything became a disaster when i reached home. I felt so uncomfortable and dizzy.

Vomited for 7 times!

Both my legs shivered whenever i tried to stand up

My food in my tummy couldn't digest properly.

My dream of completing the Jogathon has evaporated. No more no more. While the others were enjoying their run on the next day, i was enjoying my torture at home.

Never ever go to Pizza Hut anymore. Not that i have phobia of it, but i am currently 100% anti of it. Erghh...**yucks yucks**

What a wonderful happening.

Maybe the chef didn't wash his hands, and coincidentally your body didn't have the bacteria immunity. So, I guess you will go Pizza Junction from now on, right?
